Laura Oatman, AIA, LEED AP has over 30 years of experience in design and development of custom residences and hospitality projects, including destination resorts and urban hotels and spas. Her focus is architectural design for the hospitality industry, with particular emphasis on boutique hotels, wellness resorts and spas that desire a unique combination of both luxury and sustainability.
Prior to joining Oatman Architects, Laura was Project Director for hotel developer, Viceroy Hotel Group (The Kor Group), in Los Angeles. She was involved in both new and renovation hotel projects, international and domestic. She was instrumental in developing the Viceroy hotel brand guidelines, and involved in all projects that retained their preferred interior designer, Kelly Wearstler. She was the director of Viceroy’s green initiatives program (“Second Nature”). Prior to working on the development side, she spent most of her career practicing architecture, specifically hotel design with WATG Architects on many projects throughout the world.
During the 14 years she was a stay-at-home mom with 5 young children, she had her own residential design practice, renovating high-end homes in Orange County. Laura has a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from UC Irvine. She received her Master of Architecture from the Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Planning at UCLA in 1983 (where she met Homer). She is a registered architect in the State of California, and a LEED AP accredited professional.
In addition to her work in architecture, she is a certified plant-based nutritionist, author of the #1 bestselling book, Whole Earth Diet, and owner of Whole Earth Wellness, a holistic health and wellness company dedicated to helping clients transition to a plant-based vegan diet and a healthy lifestyle. She is a native of Southern California, and currently resides in Newport Beach with her husband, dogs, cat, and tortoise, who all look forward to the comings and goings of their five adult children.
